What do Expert Council members do
Working with moderators, Expert Council members use their expertise to:
- evaluate the models used in the Climate CoLab and proposals submitted in contests,
- make suggestions on how to improve models or proposals.
In this sense, Expert Council members play a role somewhat like peer reviewers for an academic journal; however, this role is not like that of reviewers for academic journals in the following ways:
- the units of information reviewed will generally be much smaller than a journal article,
- the turnaround time for reviews will be faster, and
- the reviewers' role will not usually keep information out of the CoLab altogether, as academic reviewers do when they recommend that an article not be published in a journal; rather, the role of experts in the CoLab will be to identify and bring attention to the most credible or important information.
Of course, Expert Council members--like all other users--are also encouraged to contribute models and to proposals they find of interest.
Reviewing process #
The Expert Council will evolve its reviewing processes over time as needs change.
For an example of one approach that has been used, see Proposed reviewing process for simulation models.
